Each year, HisBA provides a number of scholarships to deserving law students who are active members of the Hispanic Law Student Association (HLSA) at their respective law schools.

Judge A.D. AZIOS 1L Scholarship Program

The Hispanic Bar Association of Houston awards $2000 scholarships to deserving first-year law students at each of the three Houston area law schools. The scholarship honors Judge A.D. Azios, and is designed to assist students in fulfilling professional aspirations and will be awarded to students based on such factors as academic excellence, financial need, demonstrated leadership and commitment toward the advancement of Hispanics in the legal profession.

Judge A.D. AZIOS 1L HisBA Scholarship Application

Eligibility

In order to be eligible to receive the scholarship, applicants must be first-year law students and members of the Hispanic Law Student Association (HLSA) at the law school.

Judge James DeAnda 2L Scholarship Program

The Hispanic Bar Association of Houston awards $1500 scholarships to deserving second-year law students at each of the three Houston area law schools. The scholarship honors Judge James DeAnda, the former Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas and a long-time champion of civil rights. This scholarship is designed to assist students in fulfilling professional aspirations and is awarded to students based on such factors as academic excellence, financial need, demonstrated leadership, extracurricular activities, and commitment toward the advancement of Hispanics in the legal profession.

Judge James Deanda 2L HisBA Scholarship Application

Eligibility

In order to be eligible to receive the scholarships, applicants must be second-year law students attending a Houston area law school and members of the Hispanic Law Student Association (HLSA) at their law school.

3L BAR REVIEW Scholarship Program

The Hispanic Bar Association of Houston awards $3200 scholarships to deserving third-year law students at each of the three Houston area law schools. The scholarship is designed to assist students in fulfilling professional aspirations and will be awarded to students based on such factors as academic excellence, financial need, demonstrated leadership, extracurricular activities, and commitment toward the advancement of Hispanics in the legal profession.

 3L BAR Review HisBA Scholarship Application

Eligibility

The scholarships will be awarded based on academic excellence, financial need, demonstrated leadership, extracurricular activities, and commitment toward the advancement of Hispanics in the legal profession and/or the community. To be eligible for the scholarship, you must be (1) a paid member of your law school’s Hispanic law students association, (2) a current member of the Hispanic Bar Association of Houston, and (3) a third-year law student graduating in either May or December of this academic year.

Applicants should only apply if the expenses related to the purchase of their bar review preparation course have not (or will not) be paid for, or taken care of, by any third party (including any law firm).
