The Hispanic Bar Association of Houston is proud to celebrate another impactful year of our Scholarship Program, made possible through the strength of our community and our shared commitment to advancing the next generation of legal leaders.

This year, we received nearly 50 applications from students across Houston’s three law schools. Each application reflected a unique journey—diverse backgrounds, powerful personal stories, and a deep passion for pursuing a career in law. The personal essays, in particular, were both inspiring and humbling, highlighting the resilience and determination that define our future attorneys.

We extend our sincere gratitude to every student who took the time to apply. Your dedication to the legal profession and your communities does not go unnoticed.

The selection process was thoughtful and highly competitive. We are especially grateful to our Scholarship Committee, led by Chair Lisa Luz Parker, with the support of Daniel Ávila II, and the scholarship commitee members who generously dedicated their time and insight to review each application with care.

This year, HISBA awarded over $43,000 in scholarships to outstanding and deserving law students. To date, HISBA has awarded over $285,000 in scholarships, reinforcing our long-standing commitment to investing in future legal leaders.

At HisBA, our mission goes beyond awarding scholarships. We are deeply committed to building a strong pipeline of Hispanic law students, providing not only financial support but also mentorship and guidance throughout their legal journey. Through our scholarship and mentorship programs, we aim to help ease financial burdens while ensuring students have the support they need to succeed—from law school through their professional careers.

We were honored to present this year’s scholarships in collaboration with the Latinx/Hispanic Law Students Association Gala, and we extend our thanks for their partnership and for creating a meaningful space to celebrate these outstanding students.

To this year’s scholarship recipients—congratulations. And to all who applied—thank you for sharing your stories with us. You are the future of our profession, and we are proud to stand alongside you.

What an incredible past couple of days connecting with brilliant legal minds at the Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA) Corporate Counsel Conference!

I was especially honored to participate again this year in the HNBA's PODER program. This incredible initiative is doing the vital work of equipping Hispanic legal professionals (like me) with the critical business skills, network, and strategic vision necessary to succeed in the C-suite.

It is so rewarding to be part of a program dedicated to preparing Latino(a) leaders to step confidently into the General Counsel roles at some of the most influential companies in the nation.

The energy, candor, and insights shared this week were truly unmatched. A huge thank you to Angel Gomez,  Jose Ramon GonzalezJulia A. Lopez and the HNBA leadership who made this week such a resounding success.

Also, not to bury the lead: Houston, we have a conference! I am absolutely thrilled to share that we will be hosting the HNBA CCC right here in our hometown next year. We're already getting to work to make it an unforgettable experience. Everyone make sure you bring your boots and cowboy hats!

Also, also, I would be remiss if I didn't mention the outstanding showing that our Houston Hispanic Bar Association(HISBA) board had at this conference. What an amazing group.

    See you all in 2027!

Gustavo Torres, Vice President HisBA Houston

The Hispanic Bar Association of Houston was proud to participate in the inaugural Career Connections: Legal Organization Showcase at South Texas College of Law.

It was a pleasure meeting so many law students and sharing HisBA’s mission, mentorship program, scholarship opportunities, and leadership initiatives. We hope students take advantage of the many resources available as they prepare to enter the legal profession.

Thank you to the Career Resource Center for hosting such a meaningful and engaging event. We look forward to staying connected with the next generation of legal leaders.

Thank you to our board members Sergio Leal and Lena Silva, and our Executive Director Daniel Rodriguez, for representing HisBA and engaging with students.

The HisBA Chispas showed up and showed out at the Houston Bar Association 8K!

The run supports the incredible work of Pursuit Center, an organization dedicated to empowering individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live meaningful and productive lives.

We were proud to run not just for wellness and fellowship — but for impact.
HisBA is about more than professional excellence. It’s about community. It’s about service. It’s about showing up.

The Chispas — our spark ⚡ — represent the energy and momentum of Hispanic attorneys committed to lifting others as we climb.
Thank you to everyone who ran and cheered us on. Thank you to our team captain, Daniel Rodriguez.
