Leadership Houston 3rd Annual Symposium

  • September 10, 2026
  • 7:00 AM - 1:15 PM

We have a great volunteer opportunity that will be a great fit for members of HisBA’s mentorship program, particularly those looking for a chance to network with Houston leaders while also getting some community service experience.

Leadership Houston is holding its 3rd Annual Symposium next Thursday, September 10, at the Harris County Department of Education, and we could use a few additional volunteers to help with event support. Tasks will include:

- Registration and check-in
- Directing attendees and helping guests find rooms
- Helping with setup and breakdown for breakfast and lunch
- Other light event-support needs throughout the morning

Thursday, September 10, 2026
Harris County Department of Education – Adult Education Building
6515 Irvington Blvd., Houston, TX 77022
Registration begins at 7:00 a.m.; the symposium concludes around 1:15 p.m.

Anyone interested can respond directly to Sergio V Leal and he coordinate from there.

The program itself is solid and speakers include:

F. Mike Miles — Superintendent, Houston Independent School District
Dr. Laura Murillo — President & CEO, Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce
Sheriff Edward (Ed) Gonzalez — Harris County Sheriff
Shayla Bowden — Executive Director, Greater Houston’s Women’s Chamber of Commerce
Norma Castillo — Chief Human Resources Officer, Houston ISD
Dr. Toy Hill — Superintendent of Schools, Channelview ISD
James Colbert Jr. — Superintendent of Schools, Harris County Department of Education
Ugochi Iloka — News Reporter, KHOU 11
Kerry McCracken, J.D. — Executive Director, The Children’s Assessment Center
Katie Scott, MPH — Chief Executive Officer, CarePartners
Dr. Andre Lewis — Pastor, New Faith Church

Panels will touch on education, economic issues, civic engagement, nonprofit and community leadership, public service, and leadership more broadly, so I could also see this being of interest to attorneys whose practices intersect with those areas.
