Volunteer Opportunity: Join HYLA and HBA for a Service Day with Books for Development (Aug 29)

On behalf of the Houston Young Lawyers Association (HYLA) Pro Bono & Service Committee and the Houston Bar Association (HBA) Texas Youth Literacy Committee, I’d like to invite you to join us for a volunteer service morning supporting youth literacy.

We are partnering with Books for Development—a local nonprofit founded by attorneys that ships books to underserved communities—for a hands-on book-sorting and packing event.

Event Details:

• Date: Saturday, August 29, 2026
• Time: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM (Stay as long or as little as you’d like)
• Location: Books for Development Warehouse (3709 Polk St., Houston, TX 77003)
• What We’ll Do: Sort donated books by category and pack boxes for distribution. No specific skills required!
• Who Can Join: Open to all legal professionals, staff, friends, and family (ages 12+).
• Registration: Sign up at hyla.org/events

This is a fantastic, low-barrier group service activity for associates, clerks, and staff to connect with peers while making a direct impact on literacy.

Because space at the warehouse is limited, we encourage volunteers to pre-register at hyla.org/events.
