SCHOLARSHIP FOR EXCELLENCE

The Hispanic Bar Association of Houston (HisBA)* will be awarding five (5) $2,000.00 scholarships to deserving high school seniors attending a school in the greater Houston area or residing in the greater Houston area.

Recipients will be invited to, and are highly encouraged to attend, the HisBA Judicial Reception tentatively scheduled on October 15, 2019, where they will be presented their scholarship award.

The HisBA Scholarship for Excellence is designed to assist college-bound students in fulfilling their educational and professional aspirations. HisBA will award the Scholarship for Excellence based on: academic excellence and achievement, demonstrated leadership, commitment toward the advancement of the Hispanic community, and financial need. The HisBA Scholarship for Excellence is particularly focused on assisting a high school senior who will be the first in their family to attend college and who is interested in pursuing a career in law.

To be eligible to receive the HisBA Scholarship for Excellence, applicants must meet the following criteria:

1. Be a high school senior attending a school in the greater Houston area or residing in the greater Houston area during the 2019-20 academic year; and

2. Plan to attend a 2-year or 4-year college or university in Fall 2020.

If you meet the eligibility criteria and would like to be considered to receive the scholarship, please submit the following items via this form before the deadline of Friday, October 4, 2019, at 11:59 p.m.:

  1. Your completed application (form below);
  2. An essay (not to exceed 500 words) discussing your educational and professional goals and your past and future commitment to serving the Hispanic community;
  3. A current transcript (or if your transcript is unavailable, your most recent report card), reflecting your cumulative high school GPA; and
  4. A brief description of your financial need.
  5. Supplemental information: Describe your extracurricular activities, honors and awards received, leadership positions held, and work experience (including any volunteer or non-profit work). You may attach a resume to answer this question.
